Davion De'Monte Earl Mitchell (born September 5, 1998) is an American professional basketball actor for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Clan (NBA). He played college basketball for the Auburn Tigers and the Baylor Bears. He was taken ninth overall in the 2021 NBA typhoon by the Kings.

High school career [edit]

Mitchell attended Freedom County High School in Hinesville, Georgia. As a junior, he averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 assists and 2.9 steals per game, leading his squad to its first Class 4A state title. Mitchell was named Savannah Morning News Thespian of the Year.[1] In his senior season, he averaged 23.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.two assists per game. Mitchell competed for the Georgia Stars on the Apprentice Athletic Union circuit.[2] A consensus four-star recruit, he committed to playing college basketball for Auburn over offers from Cincinnati, UConn, Florida, Georgia and Clemson, among others.[iii]

College career [edit]

As a freshman at Auburn, Mitchell averaged iii.vii points and 1.nine assists per game every bit a backup point guard to Jared Harper.[4] Following the flavour, he transferred to Baylor and sabbatum out his next flavor due to NCAA transfer rules.[v] During his redshirt year, he improved his all-around game and studied film on guards like Kyle Lowry and Jalen Brunson.[ii] During his sophomore season, Mitchell was a starter on 1 of the summit teams in the nation.[6] On Dec 18, 2019, he posted a season-high nineteen points, four assists and four steals in a 91–63 win over UT Martin.[7] As a sophomore, Mitchell averaged 9.9 points and 3.eight assists per game. He was named Large 12 Newcomer of the Twelvemonth, while earning Third Team All-Big 12, All-Defensive and All-Newcomer Team honors.[viii]

In his inferior season, Mitchell became an improved shooter and passer.[9] He scored a career-loftier 31 points and seven three-pointers in a 107–59 win over Kansas State on January 27, 2021.[10] Mitchell helped Baylor win its start national championship, recording 15 points, 6 rebounds and five assists in a 86–seventy win confronting previously undefeated Gonzaga in the title game.[11] He received the Naismith Defensive Role player of the Year Accolade, NABC Defensive Player of the Twelvemonth award and the Lefty Driesell Award as the top defensive thespian in the nation.[12] Mitchell earned Big 12 Defensive Histrion of the Year and First Team All-Big 12 honors.[thirteen] On April 13, he declared for the 2021 NBA draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility.[fourteen]

Sacramento Kings (2021–nowadays) [edit]

Mitchell was selected with the ninth overall selection in the 2021 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings.[15] On August 5, 2021, he signed his rookie calibration contract with the Kings.[16] Mitchell helped the Kings win the 2021 NBA Summer League title and was named NBA Summer League MVP alongside Cam Thomas. Mitchell was besides selected to the All-NBA Summertime League First Team.[17]

On October xx, Mitchell made his NBA debut, recording ii points, three rebounds and three assists in a 124–121 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.[18] On March 20, 2022, he scored a career-loftier 28 points, aslope 3 rebounds and nine assists, in a 127–124 overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns.[nineteen]
